The women’s draw of the Miami Open got underway on Tuesday afternoon, with a few Americans taking to the courts of Crandon Park in Miami. American teen CiCi Bellis captured her second career victory in a WTA main draw, cruising past the Netherlands’ Indy De Vroome 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second-round.

Bellis displayed some excellent baseline play, and was dominant on De Vroome’s serve all match long. She won more than half (52 percent) of her return points and broke the Dutch four times in five chances.

In the next round, Bellis will take on 29th-seed Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan.

American Madison Brengle also made her way into the Miami Open second round on Tuesday with a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Serbia’s Alexsandra Krunic. Brengle was all over Krunic’s serve, forcing 12 break point chances and converting on six of them to get through to the next stage where she will play fourth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki.

Shelby Rogers was the lone American to lose in Miami on Tuesday. The South Carolina native was edged by Romania’s Monica Niculescu in a first set tie-breaker, and then Niculesca turned things on in the second set to roll to a 7-6(1), 6-1 victory.

The Romanian will play world number one and top-seeded Serena Williams in the second-round. The two met in the second-round of Indian Wells last week, with Serena pulling out a 7-5, 7-5 victory.
